Man in court after fight shut parts of town centre

A man has appeared in court after two men were stabbed in a fight.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said officers were called to Castle Street at about 22:50 BST on Tuesday. Part of Castle Street and an area of Hosier Street were taped off until Wednesday afternoon.

Ben Stevens, 29, of Caversham Road, Reading, was charged on Wednesday with two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm or wounding with intent and one count of possessing a knife in a public place.

He appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Reading Crown Court on 3 August.

A 55-year-old man, from Reading, arrested on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm or wounding with intent remains in custody.

A 52-year-old man, also from Reading, who was arrested on Wednesday has been released on bail.
