The summer solstice was marked by swimmers in East Yorkshire at sunrise on Sunday.

It was a foggy start to the day in Hornsea, where hundreds of people gathered on the shoreline for a barbecue and a dip in the North Sea.

The water was a tempting 21° at Welton Waters Adventure Centre near Hull, where 100 swimmers took to the lake earlier.

21 June is the official start of astronomical summer across the northern hemisphere, and the longest day of the year.
