Commuters faced delays of up to 40 minutes after crashes on the M6

A crash between two cars closed three lanes of the M6 in Greater Manchester, causing long rush-hour delays.

National Highways said the lanes were closed northbound between junctions 25 for Bryn and junction 26 for the Orrell Interchange near Wigan.

Greater Manchester Police said no-one was seriously injured in the two-vehicle crash but there were delays of up to 90 minutes before traffic eased.

Meanwhile, two lanes were also shut on the southbound carriageway, from junction 27 for Standish to junction 26 after a separate accident.
