Driver killed and second man injured in crash

The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake

A man has died in a two-car crash in the Lake District.

Cumbria Police said a Ford and a Dacia collided on the A66 near Thornthwaite, in the Keswick area, shortly after 01:00 BST on Saturday.

The driver of the Dacia - a man in his 40s - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital where his injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Officers have launched an investigation and are calling for witnesses to contact the force.
