Man who stabbed ex-partner to death jailed for life
TVPA man who murdered his ex-partner at the home they previously shared has been jailed for life.
Edwine Kiplangat, 29, warned Linner Sang, 39, that she would pay the "ultimate price" the day before he killed her at the flat in London Road, Reading, on 7 September 2025.
He attacked the mother-of-four with a kitchen knife after she returned to the property to collect her belongings, before he fled and booked into a hotel in Reading town centre.
Both Kenyan, Kiplangat moved to the UK in February 2024 on a visa dependent on him remaining in a relationship with Sang.
Sang had moved to London to attend the University of Greenwich in September 2023.
Following graduation, she took jobs at Brookfields School in Tilehurst and a care home, sending money back to her family in Kenya. She intended to train as a teacher.
Kiplangat routinely spied on her at their home, making lengthy sound recordings of what she was doing, before the relationship completely broke down and she moved out.
In the days leading up to the murder, Kiplangat repeatedly messaged Sang about her returning his passport to him.
On 6 September, he tried to call her 34 times and sent a message to her that read: "I need my passport and you will pay the ultimate price for it."
His phone showed he had searched for details of flights from Heathrow to Nairobi and what happens to migrants convicted of murder.

Judge Sarah Campbell told Reading Crown Court that showed a "settled intention" to kill Sang.
Kiplangat admitted Sang's murder at a hearing in May, along with the assault of two other people who had tried to intervene as Sang was killed.
One of those attacked, a close friend of Sang who had gone with her to collect her belongings, said her "life has changed completely" since.
She said the impact of the "shock, fear and grief" caused by the murder and her assault has been "overwhelming".
The judge jailed Kiplangat for a minimum of 18 years and 255 days, less the 296 days he has already spent in custody.
He must serve that before he can be assessed by the Parole Board, with deportation expected following his release.
