The funeral of Martin Chadburn was held at Hull Minster

The funeral has been held for an Army veteran who died following an alleged assault in Hull city centre.

More than 200 mourners attended the service for Martin Chadburn at Hull Minster.

The 53-year-old, who was an employee of the charity Hull 4 Heroes, died in hospital following the incident in Queen Victoria Square in April.

Three women and two men have appeared in court charged with his murder.

Chadburn's coffin was carried into the church draped with a regimental flag.

Delivery a eulogy during the service, Paul Matson, founder and chief executive of Hull 4 Heroes, described Chadburn as "a real friend".

Matson praised his work dealing with clients of the charity.

"Every single time, whatever was befalling that person, he would save their life," Matson said.

"He'd bring them into the family fold and look after him, that was Martin.

"A real, proper, funny mate. A mate to us all.

"Just an amazing, amazing person. He was a good man, a colleague and a real friend."

More than 200 mourners attended the funeral service

No pleas were entered by the five accused at a hearing at Hull Crown Court in April.

They were remanded in custody ahead of another court appearance on 7 August.
