Major delays on M60 and M62 after crashes

Drivers in the North West are facing major delays on the M62 and M60 after crashes on both motorways.

Traffic is queuing for a mile with diversions in place on the M62 after a crash between junctions eight and seven on the westbound carriageway.

The road is expected to be shut until about 11:45 BST.

Disruption on the M60 is set to last until 12:45 after a crash involving several vehicles between junction 15 and junction 16.

National Highways said police are at the scene on the M60 close to the Swinton Interchange.

In a statement Greater Manchester Police said there was a five-vehicle collision at about 08:20 BST, with no serious injuries reported and no arrests.

Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads with delays of about 30 minutes and 3 miles of congestion on the approach,

In a statement on the M62 incident, National Highways said: "The carriageway has been closed to allow emergency services to response to the incident safely."

Merseyside Police said: "A man has been taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries."

Motorist were out of their cars this morning as traffic was stationary while emergency services worked at the scene, while the car involved was on the grass verge.

Police advised drivers to avoid this stretch of the motorway "while this incident is dealt with".
