Woman and two babies hurt in bus and car crash

A woman in her 40s and two babies were taken to hospital after a crash involving a bus and a car, police have said.

Merseyside Police said the bus and a grey Audi A3 were in collision just before 10:30 BST on Warrington Road, at the junction of Chatsworth Road, in Rainhill, St Helens.

A force spokesperson said the woman who had been driving the car had been taken to hospital along with the babies for treatment.

While officers were trying to establish the extent of any injuries sustained by the bus passengers, none "are believed to be serious at this stage".

Road closures were put in place after the crash and drivers have advised to avoid the area.

Det Sgt Andy Roper has appealed for witnesses, adding: "We are in the very early stages of investigating this serious collision.

"We are determined to get answers."

He appealed for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to come forward "even if it appears insignificant because it could prove vital".
