The family of a 14-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a bus have said they cannot describe the "magnitude of the pain" they are living with.

Police were called to reports of a collision at The Hard, Portsmouth, at 16:25 BST on Monday.

Beau Croucher, from Portsmouth, died in hospital and the driver of the bus, a 39-year-old man from the city, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until 17 November.

In a tribute shared through police, Beau's family said he went out for the afternoon but "never came home".

They said they were living with an "unimaginable" loss after the death of their "beautiful, innocent baby boy".

In a tribute, they described the 14-year-old as intelligent, kind and funny, adding "to know Beau was to love him".

The family said he carried himself with a "quiet confidence and kindness" that never went unnoticed and had a gift for making people laugh and that his humour was "effortless", bringing joy to those around him.

They said he loved spending time with friends and family and was "Pompey's number one fan", following Portsmouth FC with his father and grandfather.

The family added: "Please continue to talk about him, remember him and continue to say his name."

Police have appealed for witnesses or people with dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them.

Bus company Stagecoach has said it was helping the police investigation.

In a previous statement, the firm said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of the 14-year-old boy following the incident involving one of our buses.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
