The emergency service have issued pre-Christmas warnings about the risks of e-scooters.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service has attended more than two dozen fires caused by batteries in the last few years, leading to three deaths and eight injuries reported, and it said some of those batteries were in e-scooters and e-bikes.

It said people should "buy with care" and stick to reputable manufacturers.

Meanwhile, Cambridgeshire Police, which continues to seize illegal e-scooters, said they could reach speeds that put children at risk.

The only e-scooters allowed to be ridden in public are those in official council schemes.

PC Adrian Boddington warned people considering buying e-scooters as Christmas presents that children were "more vulnerable as a result of collisions".

He added that if riders were stopped by police, the vehicles could be seized.
