A man has been jailed for seven years after he was found guilty of raping a woman at a hotel.

A jury convicted Liam Patrick Kieran Blanchfield of the offence, which happened in Ipswich on 28 June last year.

Northampton Crown Court heard Blanchfield, of Redmile Walk, Peterborough, verbally abused the woman and continued the assault despite being told to stop numerous times.

The 25-year-old, formerly of Barrack Road, Northampton, was also given an indefinite restraining order against the survivor of his crime at Monday's sentencing hearing.

PC Kimberly Streuli, who led the Northamptonshire Police investigation, said: "I would like to commend the survivor in this case for her remarkable bravery in coming forward and supporting this investigation.

"The strength she has shown has been instrumental in securing this conviction and ensuring a dangerous offender is held accountable for his actions.

"I hope this outcome reassures others that they will be listened to, supported, and believed when they come forward."
