Devon and Cornwall Police said the cordon had now been removed

A 100m (328ft) cordon has been removed after the earlier discovery of a "bomb-shaped object" in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police were notified at about 12:30 BST to a report of the discovery of "an unknown device" by contractors at Colesdown Hill, near Elburton, in Plymouth.

A spokesman for the Royal Navy said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad had confirmed it was not a bomb and had now left the site.

Police said the cordon had been put in place "as a precaution" and had been removed.
