Young pony seized after concerns for welfare

A young pony was seized after concerns for its welfare were raised by members of the public.

Dorset rural crime team were alerted after the pony was spotted in the Weymouth area.

Following a search, the team discovered the pony and "were not happy" with its condition.

Officers worked alongside Dorchester neighbourhood team, RSPCA animal rescue officers and an equine vet to examine, seize and remove the pony.

The pony is now being cared for at an equine centre and inquiries are underway to discover how the pony came be in its condition.

A RSPCA spokesperson said: "An investigation is now ongoing so we can't go into any further detail at this time.

"We're grateful to people who report their concerns to us but we cannot comment any further as we are unable to discuss ongoing enquiries about specific individuals and what action may be taken.

"We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future prosecution or could lead to us being fined."
