Police get more time to quiz woman on suspicion of murder

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Southampton have been granted more time to interview a woman on suspicion of murder.

Police were called to reports a man had been assaulted at an address in Weston Lane at 04:21 BST on Sunday.

A 23-year-old woman, from Bournemouth, Dorset, and a 54-year-old man, from Southampton, were located nearby and arrested on suspicion of murder, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.

The man was later released with no further action being taken but the woman remains in police custody, with a 36-hour warrant of further detention granted on Monday.

Hampshire police said that as part of its investigation, officers remained at the scene.

Anyone with concerns or questions is encouraged to speak to the officers.

Senior Investigating Officer, Det Ch Insp Robert Harrington, said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are with the victim and his family.

"We have specially trained officers who continue to support them at this extremely sad and difficult time."

Anyone with any information about the death is asked to contact the force.

Harrington added: "While I understand this incident will have caused understandable concern within the community, I hope the swift arrests made will offer further reassurance."
