Flat fire arsonist jailed for endangering lives
Cumbria PoliceA man has been jailed for setting fire to a flat, which forced police to evacuate surrounding properties.
Daniel Carter sparked the blaze which set off a fire alarm at the flat in Citadel Row, Carlisle, in the early hours of 16 June.
Appearing at Carlisle Crown Court, the 26-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted arson and recklessly endangering lives and was jailed for two years and eight months.
Cumbria Police said £60,000 worth of damage was caused to the flat but no-one injured in the blaze.
Investigations found Carter had set household items alight.
Det Emma Barker said: "Fires can quickly become out of control putting people's lives at risk.
"Carter made significant comments at the scene about being responsible for the fire.
"Thankfully, in this case the occupants of the property and surrounding flats were evacuated to safety with no-one injured."
