Firefighters tackle moorland wildfire

Watch: Firefighters were called to the moorland blaze near Glossop

Firefighters are continuing to tackle a wildfire involving moorland and woodland in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Tintwistle Moor, above Woodhead Road, at 22:11 BST on Wednesday.

The service said six fire crews, a water carrier and welfare unit were at the scene on Thursday, adding that the fire had affected 400 sq m of land.

The A628 Woodhead Pass has been closed in both directions between the A57 and A616 due to the fire, according to National Highways.

Fire crews had left the scene at 02:00 on Thursday due to failing light, but returned at 04:00.

Anyone who can see or smell smoke has been advised to keep their windows and doors closed, and people have been urged to avoid the area.
