Road to get street table after 'near misses'

A Hull street is to get a speed table after a number of near misses with pedestrians, the council has said.

According to Hull City Council documents, a number of pedestrians experienced "near misses with vehicles" on Newland Avenue.

The speed table - similar to a speed hump but longer and flat-topped - will be funded using £10,000 from the local authority's crime prevention fund.

Councillor Ted Dolman, who is responsible for communities and community safety, said the fund helps groups "come up with creative solutions", creating "safe and welcoming neighbourhoods".

Other projects to be awarded grants include regeneration of the Hull KR Community Hub at Craven Park, fencing and CCTV for the Vulcan Centre on Heron Street, and CCTV for Newlands St John Church.

There will also be funding for new footpath safety rails on Chanterlands Avenue, and a storage facility at Hull General Cemetery.
