A medieval gold ring discovered by a metal detectorist has gone on display at a museum.

The 14th Century gold finger ring was unearthed from an undisclosed location in Bourton and Draycote, Warwickshire, in October 2023 and is now on display at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.

The treasure featured a dark red cabochon stone in an oval bezel, with an aperture decorated with incised circles and grooves on the ring's shoulders, Rugby Borough Council said.

Councillor Maggie O'Rourke, portfolio holder for partnerships, health and wellbeing, said the authority was "delighted" to have acquired a piece of Rugby's history and to share it with visitors to the museum.

The authority said the ring was recorded by the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) and was declared "treasure" due to its age and precious metal content.

Councillor Neil Sandison described it as "fantastic find", adding it had laid buried "long before" the original St Andrew's Church was erected in Rugby town centre.
