An off-road e-bike rider injured in a crash in a tunnel under the Mersey has since died.

A Sur-ron bike crashed on the eastbound carriageway of the Queensway Tunnel, which connects Birkenhead and Liverpool, shortly after 13:05 BST on Tuesday.

The rider, Korben Bell, 24, from Neston, Cheshire, died in hospital on Wednesday, Merseyside Police said.

The force said an investigation into the incident remained "ongoing" and appealed for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward.

Det Sgt Kurt Timpson said Bell's family were being supported by officers.

"Our inquiries into the collision remain ongoing," he said.

The tunnel was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and all river-crossing bus services were re-routed via the Kingsway Tunnel during the closure.
