Investigative works have been planned for a historic harbour.

Ports of Jersey has applied for permission to carry out environmental and geotechnical surveys on La Folie Quay in St Helier.

The site contains the former La Folie Inn, the vacant South Pier House, an unused office building, other commercial buildings and a car park.

Ports said the project was intended to better understand the way the quay had been constructed and better able to manage its future, and it expected the works to take between five and six weeks.

Ports said the quay dated from the early 1700s and the former pub had been built for the workers involved in the quay's construction.

The quay, the former inn and South Pier House are a mix of Grade 1 and Grade 3 listed buildings.

In July 2025 Ports said it aimed to transform the 32,292 sq ft (3,000 sq m) site into a hotel.

The planned ground investigations will include bore holes, trial pits and slit trenches and Ports said it hoped work could commence during the summer.
