Bus station upgrades to make town more accessible
LCCMajor improvements to bus journeys will "make services more reliable and easier to use", a county councillor has said.
It is part of works to upgrade Colne town centre in Lancashire and follows the completion of a revamp to the bus station earlier this year.
Improved facilities, include new shelters, real-time information and improved accessibility.
John Clemson from Lancashire County Council said the scheme, which will focus on improving how buses and traffic move through the town centre, would "make a real difference to how people travel in and around Colne and support greater use of public transport".
'Support thriving town'
Changes include allowing buses to access the station from all directions, relocating stops from Market Street into the bus station, and introducing new traffic signals and pedestrian crossings to improve safety and accessibility.
Once completed, all bus services will operate from the station, making it easier for passengers to change services.
Work is expected to begin on 17 August and should take about 12 weeks.
Councillor Asjad Mahmood, leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: "These improvements are helping to create a better connected, safer and more accessible town centre for residents, visitors and businesses alike.
"The new bus station makes it easier for people to travel around Pendle and beyond, while the wider traffic and pedestrian improvements support our ambitions to create a thriving and welcoming town centre."
