Empty TK Maxx site should be sold, cabinet told
Local Democracy Reporting ServiceA former TK Maxx building in Peterborough city centre should be sold for mixed-use housing, council officers have recommended.
The Bridge Street building was originally bought by the local authority in 2020 for £4.1m to be used as part of a £15m community hub project known as The Vine.
However, in 2023, Peterborough City Council decided to sell the site after works there were estimated to cost about £10.8m and were not deemed economically viable.
The cabinet was recommended to sell the vacant four-storey building to Bridge Street (March) Limited following a marketing exercise that concluded in the autumn.
Roundhouse replica work progressing

Work to rebuild a prehistoric roundhouse destroyed by a fire is expected to be completed by January.
The Iron Age replica at Flag Fen Archaeology Park, near Peterborough, was built in 2022, but it was destroyed in what was suspected to have been a deliberate fire on 13 July.
Flag Fen said £18,000 had been raised through a public appeal and the site's manager, Jacqui Mooney, said the rebuild had happened "far more quickly than we ever imagined" thanks to the "generosity" of local people and businesses.
Fly-tipping CCTV released by council for first time
Local Democracy Reporting ServicePeople living in one of the most fly-tipped parts of England say more needs to be done long-term to combat the problem.
Peterborough has the highest rate of fly-tipping in eastern England and, for the first time, the city council has released CCTV to show how it has been tracking down offenders.
It has also considered creating a "rogue's gallery" so "perpetrators can be identified and named and shamed", it said.
