Repair work begins on road in danger of collapsing
Lincolnshire County CouncilWork has started on a £1.7m scheme to repair a road in danger of collapsing.
The embankment on Yarborough Hill, Lincoln, is being reinforced with more than 10,000 tonnes of material.
Lincolnshire County Council said the work would stabilise the slope and also deal with drainage issues that had caused the retaining walls to begin to fail.
Work is expected to take three months and road closures along with diversions have been put in place.
An existing concrete layby will also be removed and the footpath rebuilt closer to the carriageway to create a shallower and more stable embankment to reduce the risk of future ground movement, the council added.
Councillor David East, executive member for highways, said: "These are essential works that will provide long-term stability for Yarborough Hill and help prevent more serious problems developing in the future.
"By strengthening the embankment and improving drainage, we'll be fixing the carriageway dips, cracks and uneven footways that have developed over time, creating a much safer route for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians."
Details on the project and the traffic management during the work are available on the council's website.
