Road closed after lorry fire spreads to grass verge

A major road is partially closed after a lorry carrying hay caught on fire, later spreading to the adjacent grass verge.

National Highways said the A303 between Ilminster and Upottery remains closed westbound after the fire first reported at about 20:45 BST on Monday.

While fire crews have extinguished the fire, crews remain on scene to carry out recovery and clear-up work, it added.

Motorists are being told to expect delays, with diversions also in place.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service said six crews and an environmental unit attended the fire, with a local farmer also helping to stop the spread.

The eastbound carriageway was also closed but reopened at 0700 BST.
