A sailor has been rescued by a lifeboat crew after his boat capsized in strong winds.

Hamble Lifeboat said its crew were training off Calshot, in Hampshire, when they spotted the capsized racing dinghy in "challenging conditions", at about 15:20 BST on Saturday with the winds gusting over 40 knots (46 mph).

The independent lifeboat crew manoeuvered the Red Funnel ferry, Red Osprey, to block the choppy waters and gusty winds, then pulled the sailor to safety and recovered the dinghy.

The crew said the sailor, who was uninjured but exhausted after repeated attempts to flip the boat back around, was taken ashore to Calshot.
