Care home planned at former church site

Plans to build a care home with more than 130 beds on the site of a demolished church have been revealed.

Two three-storey buildings would be built on the former St Teresa's Catholic Church in Parkfields, Wolverhampton, proposals submitted to the council by the Restful Homes Group show.

The development, in Dimmock Street, would respect the character of the area "through appropriate scale and design", a statement with the application said.

The church, which was built in the 1930s and late 1960s, was the target of frequent break-ins until it was demolished in 2025.

Services ended at the church in 2022 before the building was put on the market with an asking price of £1m.

A car park with 50 spaces is included in the designs and the new care home would lead to the equivalent of 45 full-time jobs, the firm said, adding they felt there was a need for the scheme in the area to support older people.

The site was currently cleared and unused, the statement added.

A decision on the plans will be made by the council at a future date.
