Tributes have been paid to a grandfather with a "heart of gold" who died in a crash between his motorbike and a van.

Derbyshire Police said Len Bolshaw, 66, was pronounced dead following a crash between his red Triumph Tiger motorbike and a white Ford Transit van in Leathersley Lane, Scropton, just after 08:20 BST on 28 June.

The force said the driver of the van, a 34-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving. It added he had been released on bail while inquiries continued.

In a tribute, issued through police, Bolshaw's family said he was a "huge character" and was "always happiest when he was with people and motorbikes".

"He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and good friend to many," the tribute added.

"His tragic sudden loss has left a massive hole in all our lives, one that can never be filled."

Officers appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage to contact the force.
