A man has been jailed for life after he murdered his partner in a "brutal and senseless attack" at her home in Herefordshire.

Julian Thomas, of Brampton Bryan, near Bucknell, Shropshire, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on Friday with a minimum term of 18 years and 158 days.

The 55-year-old, who previously pleaded guilty to the murder of Ann Marie Green, 61, also received an additional nine months for a second charge of ABH, which will run concurrently.

Following the hearing, police described the killer as a dangerous individual.

The murder happened at a property on Apple Tree Close in Bromyard on 27 September 2025.

Det Ch Insp Gareth Lougher of West Mercia Police said: "Thomas is a dangerous individual, and today's sentence ensures he will no longer pose a threat to the public.

"While no sentence can ever undo the harm caused, we hope this outcome provides some measure of justice for Ann Marie's family and reflects the seriousness of his actions.

"I would also like to recognise the dedication and professionalism of the investigation team, whose work ensured Thomas was brought to justice."

In a statement issued through West Mercia Police last year, Green's family said they were mourning "a wonderful mum, stepmum, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother".

They said: "Our mum was one of a kind. Always took in everybody as one of her own.

"She was kind, caring and, as a family, we are all lost without her. Losing her has left a great hole in our lives that can never be filled."
