Bathing resumes at part of beach after oil spill

Swimmers have been told they can bathe again at parts of a beach after reports of a possible fuel or oil spill in the area.

The Environment Agency said it was investigating pollution at Blyth South Beach in Northumberland, after reports of a substance near the Port of Blyth. The incident was logged at 17:10 BST on Wednesday.

Bathing can now resume on the beach south of the Dave Stephens Centre, Northumberland County Council said.

The precautionary advice remains in place for the affected area and visitors are asked to follow the signage and advice in place.

The Environment Agency, Northumberland County Council and Port of Blyth are still investigating the situation and analysing water samples.
