Search for man thought to have gone overboard from ferry stood down

A search operation for a man who may have gone overboard during a ferry sailing has been stood down.

HM Coastguard said it was first alerted at 09:15 BST on Monday that a man was believed to have gone missing during the overnight passenger vessel crossing from Dublin to Holyhead, on Anglesey.

A multi-agency search was launched, involving RNLI lifeboats from Holyhead, Porthdinllaen and Howth as well as an Irish Coast Guard helicopter.

North Wales Police, and police in Ireland - An Garda Síochána - have both been informed.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "After an extensive search, no one was found and the response was stood down at about midnight, pending any new information."
