Betting shop opens at site of former hair salon

A betting shop has opened at the site of a former hair salon after receiving planning permission from a city council.

Yaxley-based S&D Bookmakers said it had created two full-time jobs after opening its new store in Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough on Tuesday.

The company applied for a gambling licence earlier in the year and submitted a planning application to Peterborough City Council in October to change the use of the unit, which was approved this month.

In its application, the company noted that the new homes proposed for the East of England Showground site were among the reasons for choosing Orton.
