A number of c2c trains between Essex and London are being cancelled on Monday, due to issues with "track quality" following the summer heatwaves.

Passengers have been told to expect disruption to services, including short notice delays and cancellations, until further notice.

The train company said prolonged dry weather had caused clay underneath the tracks to dry out and shrink, which had led to speed restrictions being imposed.

It said it "strongly recommends" customers travel earlier in the day or after peak times where possible, and to check for delays before travelling.

The company runs services between Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness, and serves 26 stations in east London and south Essex.

Speed restrictions would be in place until ground conditions have recovered, which c2c said could take "some time".

A number of services also had to be cancelled on Friday, and trains have been diverted into London Fenchurch Street during this weekend.
