The moment illegal e-bikes are crushed after police crackdown

More than 700 illegal e-bikes and e-scooters have been seized in Cardiff since last summer, according to South Wales Police.

Footage shows a pile of the vehicles being crushed as the force's latest operation, carried out with Cardiff council, saw officers confiscate a further 39 in areas including Cathays, Ely, Caerau, Fairwater, Hailey Park and along the Taff Trail.

Police said many of the mechanically propelled vehicles, or MPVs, were being used illegally on roads, pavements and public paths.

Insp Tim Ursell said the unlawful use of e-bikes and e-scooters was "not only illegal but also puts pedestrians and road users at serious risk".
