Drink-driver crashes car with children inside

Video showed a drink-driver speeding along a road before crashing his BMW into a tree with three children in the car.

They were not badly hurt but a woman was taken to hospital with a serious injuries after the collision in Park Road, Peterborough, at about 19:00 GMT on 16 March.

Cambridgeshire Police said former councillor Shaz Nawaz, 47, of Park Road, blew more than double the legal limit for alcohol and was arrested.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and drink-driving and was handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence at Cambridge Crown Court.
