A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering another man in a stabbing.

The victim was found at about 21:50 BST on Wednesday on Yarm Lane at the junction with Lawrence Street in Stockton-on-Tees.

The victim, aged 31, was taken to James Cook University Hospital and died a short time later. A 49-year-old man was taken into police custody for questioning.

Det Ch Insp John Bonner said his thoughts were with the family and loved ones of the man who has "tragically lost his life" and he appealed for information, including video footage, particularly from motorists who were travelling through Yarm Lane, Buchanan Street and Hartington Road.

Investigators remained at the scene on Thursday morning.
