Police trying to identify pedestrian killed in Grangemouth crash

Police are trying to establish the identity of a man who died after being struck by a car in Grangemouth.

The incident happened at about 23:15 on Monday on Newlands Road and involved a Ford Fiesta.

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 35-year-old male driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and arrested in connection with the incident.

The road re-opened at about 06:00 on Tuesday.

Sgt Michael Shillington said: "Our inquiries are ongoing to ID the man who died and to establish the full circumstances of this crash and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it to contact us.

"We are looking to trace the driver of a vehicle that initially stopped at the scene but left before police arrival.

"I would also ask anyone who was in the area and many have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us."
