Three lorry crash closes section of the M6
National HighwaysA crash involving three heavy goods vehicles and a car has closed a section of the M6 in Staffordshire.
National Highways said it happened northbound at about 04:00 BST between junction 15, for Stoke-on-Trent, and 16, for Talke Pits.
It said the police, fire service and ambulance service were all called and described the crash as a "very serious collision".
The southbound carriageway has reopened, but the northbound carriageway is expected to be shut for some time. Investigations were ongoing, National Highways said, and traffic caught within the closure was being released. There were delays of more than an hour on the approach, and six miles of congestion.
An ambulance service spokesperson said it was called to the scene near Butterton and sent a number of resources, including three ambulances, a trauma care doctor and the air ambulance critical care car.
