Police closed a county's key road in both directions after a "serious" two-vehicle crash involving a bus.

The A358 has reopened after being shut in both directions on Thursday between Stony Head and Thornfalcon after the crash on the Mattocks Tree Hill.

Avon and Somerset Police urged drivers to avoid the road, which is the main route between south Somerset and Taunton, and find alternative routes.

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said two people were sent to hospital after the crash, which happened at about 10:37 BST.

A SWASFT spokesperson said: "We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance to the scene.

"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital and one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital."

First Bus said the crash involved its number 30 service heading towards Axminster, and one of its passengers was treated onboard my paramedics for minor injuries.

It added no one on the bus needed hospital treatment.

The spokesperson said: "We are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident and are fully supporting the police with their enquiries."

The road was closed between the junction with the A378 (Thornfalcon traffic lights) and the junction with Lipe Lane/Stoke Road.
