Parents and carers in Guernsey will be able to attend a series of workshops on keeping children safe while using popular social media apps.

Led by Guernsey's Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA), the sessions will offer practical tips and advice for parents whose children use Snapchat, TikTok and Roblox.

The ODPA said the workshops were launched in response to "growing concerns" about AI misuse, including deepfake images of children being created without consent.

ODPA commissioner Brent Homan said the interactive, informal workshops provide "actionable advice on supporting our children in a digital era that holds both promise and peril".

"Protecting children's rights is a priority for our office and we have developed a suite of tools to do just that, from conducting classroom sessions in schools to engaging with tech companies about safe practices." said Homan.

"In our new workshops for parents, we focus on the most popular platforms for children and young people and how you can make your child's experience safer."

The sessions are due to be held on the following dates:

  • 10 March St Sampson's High School 17:30 to 18:30
  • 11 March Amherst Primary School 18:00 to 19:00
  • 12 March Castel Primary School 18:0 to 19:00
  • 19 March Sixth Form Centre 18:00 to 19:00
