Multi-vehicle crash as lorry goes through barrier
BBCA lorry crashed through the central reservation of the M54 before "multiple vehicles" were involved in subsequent collisions.
The collisions happened just before midnight on Tuesday, bringing traffic to a standstill on the westbound carriageway, between junctions two and three, where the lorry came to rest.
Emergency services attended the scene near Brewood, Staffordshire, and one lane eastbound remains shut for continuing repairs to a damaged barrier.
National Highways said the "serious collision" involved multiple vehicles with drivers advised to follow the hollow diamond symbol on road signs for a diversion route. Two people were treated for minor injuries.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity responded to the scene.
"Four people were assessed by ambulance staff. Two men were given treatment for non-serious injuries and were taken to New Cross Hospital [in Wolverhampton] for further precautionary checks. The remaining two people were discharged on scene."
National Highways West Midlands said "extensive barrier damage" meant one lane remained closed at 17:30 GMT.
It said there would be "specialist crews will be working throughout the night to complete the repairs" and people should expect 30 minute delays in the area.
