Fanzone to return if England make quarter finals
PA MediaA World Cup fanzone for football fans is set to be opened in Sheffield if England progress to the tournament's quarter finals, the city council said.
Preparations are taking place to turn Devonshire Green into Fan City, as it did during the side's journey to the final of Euro 2024.
If England manage to defeat co-hosts Mexico on Monday, all but one of the remaining World Cup fixtures will be screened during the rest of the tournament.
The second quarter final, kicking off at 02:00 BST, will not be screened at the location, Sheffield City Council confirmed.
Devonshire Green will have a giant screen as well as food and drink vendors for supporters.
"The return of Fan City at Devonshire Green offers the perfect opportunity to cheer on the boys alongside fellow football fans during the knockout stages," councillor Ben Miskell said.
"I would encourage all those who can to get down there and soak up the atmosphere."
Ties involving England are ticketed, organisers said, with free entry for other matches during the tournament.
"With late kick-off times for many games, those attending are being asked to respect those living around Devonshire Green," Miskell added.
