Hundreds of cannabis plants have been confiscated by police after officers discovered three illegal farms in 48 hours.

A tip-off from the public led Northumbria Police to search an address on Hastings Street in Hendon, Sunderland, where officers found 410 plants hidden inside.

The next day, the team returned to the area with a drone and examined a house on Tower Street West, where another farm was discovered.

"Our luck didn't end there, as the discovery led to an investigation into the adjoining property where a third farm was revealed," a force spokesperson said.

A total of 600 cannabis plants with a street value of about £97,000 were unearthed during the raids, they added.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the farms but the force said inquiries were ongoing.
