Woman dies in crash as man arrested
BBCA woman has died and a man has been arrested after a head-on collision between two cars.
Police have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by driving while unfit through drink or drugs following the crash on the B4696 between Brinkworth Road and Lydiard Plain, near Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire. It happened at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday.
A woman in her 70s was declared dead at the scene and a teenage girl, who was travelling in the man's car, has been taken to hospital with injuries.
Multiple police calls about the man, who was driving a Vauxhall Astra, were made before the crash. He remains in hospital with serious injuries.
Wiltshire Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous involvement with the suspect.
A force spokesperson said: "We received a number of calls from the public relating to the subject prior to the collision throughout the day [yesterday] which are forming part of the investigation.
"On that basis, we have referred ourselves to the IOPC."
They confirmed that the collision involved an orange Peugeot 107 travelling northbound and a black Vauxhall Astra travelling southbound.
