Businesses setting up stalls endured wet and windy conditions as the first day of the West Show got underway.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the two-day agricultural event at the L'Eree Aerodrome, St Peter's, on 19 and 20 August.

Emma Warden, owner of candle company Melting Moments Guernsey said: "One of us was holding the gazebo from blowing away and the other two were trying to dry ourselves out and set up the products."

As well as a range of local vendors, visitors have the chance to see livestock and vintage tractors, lawnmower racing and a monster truck show.

Warden said she thought the weather early on had put visitors off initially: "It did halt and delay timings but it's all done now and the sun is shining."

She added "it's always rained at the West Show" so it was "known for people to go a bit later on" to the event.

Tracey Robilliard, who sells handmade goods from Scruffy Boudloe, said her spirits were "not dampened at all - bring it on I say".

"Bring on the fun and I hope everyone has an amazing show."

The show opens at 10:00 BST on both days and closes at 23:00.
