A scenic Peak District route which has been closed for ground investigation works since Monday is set to reopen for the weekend.

A notice published by Derbyshire County Council stated Snake Pass would be closed between Derbyshire Level in Glossop and Ladybower Reservoir from 15 June to 3 July.

The road is classed as being at risk due to its steep bends and frequent closures caused by landslips.

On Friday, the council confirmed the road would open from 06:00 BST on Saturday until 09:00 on Monday, when it will close again for works to restart.

The authority said due to "good weather, careful planning and the hard work of our highways teams", it was ahead of schedule.

A spokesperson for the council added: "As always, thanks for your continued patience and understanding whilst these important works continue."

'No simple solution'

Derbyshire County Council previously said road safety work would also be carried out during the three-week closure, including pothole repairs, vegetation cutting, sign cleaning and drainage work.

Charlotte Hill, cabinet member for highways, previously said: "This work is an important step forward in securing the long-term future of Snake Pass.

"We know how vital this route is for residents, businesses and visitors, and we are committed to finding a solution to the landslip issues that have affected it for several years.

"Unfortunately, there is no simple solution.

"By carrying out these detailed investigations now, we are building the evidence needed to develop a permanent, long-term plan for fixing the road once and for all alongside our partners in the East Midlands Combined County Authority and the government.

"We apologise for any inconvenience, but doing this work now will hopefully reduce future disruption and create a far more resilient route in the years ahead."
