Brighton and Hove Pride has cancelled its upcoming dog show due to expected hot weather.

Organisers wrote on Instagram they had "regretfully" taken the decision for "health and safety reasons".

"The weather is forecast to be extremely hot this weekend," they said. "It's not worth risking the health of our dogs."

The LGBT+ themed event was planned to take place in Preston Park, Brighton, on Saturday.

The Met Office is currently forecasting temperatures of 23C on Saturday, with highs of 26C possible.

Previous incarnations of the event included dog show categories such as Cutest Puppy, Golden Oldie, Best Rescue and the Pride Special: Best Drag Dog (Queen/King).

Family entertainment, community stalls, street food and a bar were planned at the event.

All contest entrants will be automatically refunded within the next few days, organisers said.
