Murder arrest after man found dead at property

A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at an address in Barnsley.

Police began investigating the disappearance of a 62-year-old man from Sheffield at about 17:45 BST on Friday, and at about 22:15 were called to reports of a body found inside a property on George Street in Worsborough Bridge.

Officers who attended the scene found the man and a murder investigation was launched.

South Yorkshire Police said a 60-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody. Three areas have been cordoned off - two are on George Street, and one is on the Trans Pennine Trail near George Street. Anyone with information is being asked to contact them.

Det Ch Insp Aneela Khalil-Khan, who is currently leading the investigation, said: "This news will be shocking to the local communities.

"Our officers have moved fast, and have made an arrest. They are now working hard to determine the circumstances around this tragic incident.

"This is distressing news, so please stop and talk to them if you have some concerns - they will listen and help where they can."
