A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life after a person died in a house fire.

Police were called to Ronsons Close in Cowes, Isle of Wight, just after 03:30 BST, along with fire and ambulance crews.

The suspect, from Ventnor, remains in custody. The force said it had informed next of kin after the person was found deceased within the property.

About 30 firefighters fought to bring the blaze under control as it spread to neighbouring properties, forcing residents to evacuate.
