An 80-year-old man has died after his car crashed in East Lothian.

The incident took place at about 06:00 on the A198, about three-quarters of a mile east of the Lyars Road junction outside Longniddry.

Emergency services attended but the driver, the sole occupant of the white Dacia Sandero, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland have asked for any witnesses of the crash to come forward.

The coastal road was closed for hours for police to investigate the scene and reopened at around 12:10.

Sgt Jamie Humpage said his thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died as a result of the crash.

He said: "I'd ask anyone who saw this vehicle prior to the collision driving on the coastal road around Longniddry this morning to contact officers."
