Escaped man hit and killed by train named
Ant Saddington/BBCA man who was hit and killed by a train after he escaped from custody has been named.
James Brandon, 42, from Ware, is understood to have assaulted two Serco security guards as he was being transported from a custody suite at Stevenage police station to Hatfield Remand Court on 28 May.
British Transport Police found his body on the track near Welwyn North railway station at about 09:40 BST.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at The Old Courthouse in Hatfield on Tuesday, while investigations into the circumstances of his death continue.
One of the security guards has returned to work after recovering at home from his injuries.
Another, who was more seriously injured, continues to recover at home.
This month, the Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed it would not be investigating the case after carrying out a "thorough assessment".
Hertfordshire Police had nothing further to add after they previously said the case was being reviewed by its professional standards department.
